JE Dunn is seeking an IT Data Engineer to support the design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of enterprise data architecture using Microsoft Fabric. This onsite role in Kansas City, MO focuses on building scalable data pipelines, applying medallion architecture in lakehouses, and maintaining data quality and accessibility for data consumers and source system owners.
Role Overview
The Data Engineer serves as a technical implementer within the data engineering team, working to establish a robust data foundation. The position partners with data consumers and source system owners to deliver reliable data services and to support the broader strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement a data mesh architecture using Microsoft Fabric’s OneLake Lakehouses, including data governance and security measures
- Establish data transformation processes to support data quality and consistency
- Develop and maintain both synchronous (real-time) and batch data integration processes, implementing unidirectional and bidirectional data flows as needed
- Develop and maintain API and delta connections to enable interoperability across systems
- Implement data validation processes to support successful data exchange between systems
- Monitor system performance, compute resources, and storage utilization
- Troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline failures and performance bottlenecks
- Maintain documentation for data architecture, pipelines, and processes
- Foster cross-departmental collaboration to identify data synergies and opportunities
- Monitor and maintain deployed machine learning models
- Document ML model data dependencies, pipelines, and infrastructure requirements
- Support ML model development by ensuring dependable data pipelines for training and inference
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of relevant experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, data science, or related field
- Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner
- Communication skills (verbal and written)
- Time management and the ability to prioritize multiple projects
- Ability to drive change through innovation and process improvement
- Ability to communicate to executive audiences and deliver results through influence
- Proficiency in MS Office (Intermediate)
- Proficiency in SQL (Intermediate)

- Experience implementing data mesh architecture and medallion models
- Experience with various data integration patterns and technologies
- Knowledge of data governance and security best practices
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Preferred)
- Experience developing and consuming REST APIs for data integration
- Familiarity with Power BI and Microsoft Fabric
- Experience with Microsoft Purview or similar data catalog and governance tools
- Understanding of machine learning concepts and MLOps
