Hewlett Packard Enterprise is building Kubernetes-based control plane software for enterprise storage, and this role is focused on creating reliable networking and software distribution at scale. You will design and own Go services and Kubernetes controllers that power highly available client networking, automate data-center switch operations, and enable safe cluster install and upgrade workflows. This is a hands-on engineering position with real technical impact, mentoring opportunities, and an environment that prioritizes inclusion, health, and professional growth.
What you’ll do
- Design, develop, and own Go microservices and Kubernetes controllers/operators for cluster networking, network infrastructure management, and software distribution.
- Build host-level Linux networking software to configure interfaces, addressing, and routing for highly available access over IPv4 and IPv6.
- Automate data-center network switch configuration and safe, recoverable firmware upgrades.
- Develop and maintain services that package, store, and distribute software and container images for cluster installs and upgrades.
- Design distributed services that stay correct through node failures, restarts, and partial upgrades.
- Review designs and code for correctness, failure handling, and testability, providing actionable feedback to improve product quality and reduce risk.
- Create automated unit, integration, and system tests, including fault-injection testing.
- Troubleshoot customer escalations and field issues across Kubernetes, Linux networking, and network infrastructure, then convert findings into lasting fixes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional storage, platform, and cloud teams on designs spanning multiple components.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, setting an example in software design and development excellence.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
- Typically 10+ years of experience developing production software, including significant experience with distributed or infrastructure systems.
- Strong professional experience with Go (Golang), including concurrency and testable design.
- Hands-on experience building on Kubernetes, such as developing controllers/operators and custom resources.
- Solid knowledge of Linux IP networking including TCP/IP, routing, VLANs, and IPv6, plus hands-on network troubleshooting experience.
- Experience with software packaging, distribution, and upgrades, including container images, registries, and rolling updates.
- Experience designing distributed, highly available systems that tolerate partial failures.
- Proficiency in Python for test automation, tooling, and system setup scripts.
- Experience with RPC frameworks (for example, gRPC), secure communications (TLS), and Linux system services.
- Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills, with strong written and verbal communication.
Technologies you’ll work with
- Go (Golang), Kubernetes, Linux, TCP/IP, IPv4, IPv6, VLANs
- Python, gRPC, TLS, RPC frameworks
- Container images, registries, rolling updates
Benefits and support
- Health & Wellbeing
