Workday Data Engineer
Job Description
Robert Half is seeking an on-site Workday Data Engineer for a role based in New York, NY. The position focuses on designing, building, and maintaining scalable ERP data pipelines for Workday and related enterprise systems, with an emphasis on data quality, governance, and reliable production operations. The role offers an hourly compensation range of USD 65 to 135 and requires a minimum of seven years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and sustain scalable ERP data pipelines supporting Workday and related enterprise applications
- Lead the complete lifecycle of ERP data pipelines from ingestion through transformation to delivery
- Support data conversion and migration efforts, including mergers and acquisitions and system integrations
- Ensure pipeline reliability, recoverability, and stable production operations
- Troubleshoot pipeline failures and identify root causes of data defects and operational issues
- Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate requirements into data-driven solutions
- Apply and enforce SDLC best practices such as version control, code reviews, CI/CD, and release management
- Develop and maintain data quality controls including freshness, completeness, anomaly detection, and schema management
- Proactively detect and manage schema drift and downstream data issues
- Establish and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability for data pipelines
- Optimize performance, scalability, and cost efficiency of data workloads
- Monitor operational KPIs such as pipeline success rates, SLAs, incident trends, and recovery times
- Create runbooks, documentation, and audit-ready operational processes
- Collaborate with data governance, security, and compliance teams on controls and data access
- Support analytics, reporting, and integration teams with reliable, well-governed datasets
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and escalate risks promptly
Requirements
- Minimum seven years of experience in data engineering, ETL/ELT development, or enterprise data integration
- Hands-on experience operating production data pipelines end-to-end, including monitoring, testing, and support
- Strong experience applying SDLC best practices, including version control, code reviews, and CI/CD
- Solid SQL skills and programming experience, such as Python
- Experience with ERP, finance, or enterprise application data in a complex environment
