Software Engineer - E2
Job Description
Lockheed Martin is hiring a Software Engineer II (E2) to join the LE–Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) team supporting the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) program at Cape Canaveral, FL. In this individual contributor role, you will help build new consoles to replace legacy equipment and maintain or support existing test equipment, contributing to aerospace software development activities and technical problem-solving across the lifecycle.
Role Overview
As a Software Engineer II on the EGSE team, you will support aerospace software development lifecycle work while leading and executing technical tasks related to software design, development, verification, and ongoing system reliability and maintainability improvements.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, debug, and document software across its development lifecycle.
- Investigate problems and work to improve system reliability and maintainability.
- Apply experience to technical decisions, reviews, and collaborative problem-solving.
- Mentor junior or new staff on projects.
- Plan, conduct, and coordinate software development activities.
- Design, develop, document, test, and debug software that provides logical and mathematical solutions to mission and business problems.
- Apply appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the software development life cycle.
- Use knowledge of computer hardware and software, information processing techniques, and system-user input to develop software for business and mission applications.
- Correct program errors, prepare operating instructions, compile program development documentation, and analyze system capabilities to address questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls.
- Ensure software standards are met.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science (or a related technical discipline) from an accredited college, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Hands-on programming experience in one or more core languages: C/C++, Python, Java, LabVIEW, or TestStand.
- Proven experience working on project teams and collaborating in software development efforts.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance; US Citizenship is required.
- To obtain a DoD security clearance, you must be a US Citizen.

Additional Role Expectations
- Experience supporting technical evaluation of design and requirements verification.
- Experience in different phases of the aerospace software development cycle.
- 2+ years of professional experience.
- Support occasional travel as needed.
Preferred Skills
- Background or familiarity with aerospace systems, defense technologies, or working directly alongside government or military clients.
- Familiarity with Agile frameworks and platform management environments such as JIRA, Git, and Confluence.
- Advanced on-site diagnostics, systems testing architecture, and hardware/software integration testing.
- Knowledge of DevOps principles, automated test script design, or Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) concepts.
- Working knowledge of the end-to-end product lifecycle, including software development, deployment, and retirement.
- Familiarity with issue tracking and system troubleshooting workflows (JIRA, EPDM, ClearQuest, etc.).
- Proficiency in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice.

Work Location and Schedule
This position does not support teleworking. You will need to live near the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station offsite location and work a flexible 9x80 office schedule full-time.
Compensation
Full-Time Salary Range: $81,100 - $150,500 per year. Lockheed Martin may consider scope and responsibilities, work experience, education and training, key skills, and market factors when extending an offer.
