Job Description

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to shape the core systems and libraries used in avionics, with a focus on DO-178 certification. This onsite role in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, centers on architecting essential software components and the supporting toolchain for safety-critical platforms.

Location: Cedar Rapids, IA (onsite). Salary: USD 86,800 - 165,200 per year. Minimum experience: 3 years. Education: Advanced Degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and design core software components, libraries, and tooling to meet avionics requirements
  • Lead technical direction across development and verification activities for safety-critical software under DO-178
  • Specify software requirements, decompose them, and establish traceability across complex systems
  • Develop and verify software using modern C++ with object-oriented design
  • Prepare DO-178 certification artifacts, including DAL-A deliverables
  • Lead certification efforts, engaging with customers and regulatory authorities
  • Participate in peer reviews to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance throughout the lifecycle
  • Collaborate with engineering, program leadership, and customers to align technical solutions with program objectives
  • Willing to travel as required (domestic and international, <10%)

Requirements

  • A STEM degree with a minimum of five years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least three years
  • U.S. citizenship required to access information under the program/contract
  • Proven experience designing and developing software architecture, libraries, or platform-level components in aerospace or safety-critical environments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical execution, including customer engagement and presenting to stakeholders
  • Hands-on DO-178 software development and certification experience, including requirements, verification, or certification artifacts
