Senior Embedded Software Engineer
Job Description
Clientmind Recruiting is seeking a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer for a full-time role based in Greenbelt, MD, with a hybrid schedule (onsite 3x per week). This position focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining firmware and software for microcontroller-based systems, with emphasis on architecture, debugging, optimization, validation, documentation, and engineering mentorship.
Role Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for microcontroller-based systems, targeting strong performance, reliability, and power efficiency.
- Collaborate on system architecture and firmware design, including low-level driver development for sensors and I/O interfaces, hardware abstraction layers, and communication protocols.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex firmware and system issues using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and debuggers.
- Optimize firmware across performance, memory usage, and power consumption while meeting real-time and safety-critical needs.
- Coordinate with hardware engineers, software teams, and product managers to support smooth integration between firmware, hardware, and system-level applications.
- Create and maintain high-quality documentation, including specifications, design documents, test plans, and user manuals for ongoing development and maintenance.
- Develop and execute unit tests, integration tests, and system-level validation to support firmware quality and robustness.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers, including guidance on best practices and assistance with complex engineering problems.
- Stay current with embedded systems and firmware development techniques, and contribute improvements to engineering practices.
Required Qualifications
- US Citizen with Secret level security clearance or ability and willingness to obtain a clearance.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in embedded firmware development with a demonstrated record of successful project execution.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with scripting languages (such as Python) for automation or testing purposes.
