Senior COBOL/Mainframe Developer- Contract- (Columbus, OH)

Stafford Technology is seeking an Engineer II, Senior Mainframe Developer, to join our Mainframe Engineering team. This position requires strong technical expertise in COBOL, CICS, DB2, and JCL, with the ability to quickly understand and navigate complex enterprise environments. In this role, you will contribute to major project initiatives, partnering closely with engineering teams, product managers, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions. The ideal candidate thrives in an Agile environment, works effectively within cross-functional teams, and is comfortable supporting on-call rotations during business hours and off-hours when needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy mainframe solutions using COBOL, DB2, CICS, and JCL
• Analyze business and system requirements and translate them into high-quality technical solutions
• Troubleshoot, enhance, and optimize existing applications within a high-availability mainframe environment
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on technical solutions and project goals

Required Skills and Experience

• 7+ years of hands-on experience with COBOL
• 7+ years of hands-on experience with DB2
• 7+ years of hands-on experience with CICS
• 7+ years of hands-on experience with JCL
• Strong understanding of Agile SDLC methodologies
• Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience working within large-scale enterprise mainframe environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Azure or AWS cloud platforms
• Ability to work effectively in both team-based and individual contributor roles
• Experience following detailed technical documentation and established processes
