Security Data Engineer

Remote Remote $320k - $405k/yr Full time Posted 8d ago

Job Description

Anthropic is seeking a Security Data Engineer to help own security data systems that support its data center footprint. The work focuses on component-level hardware inventory, chain of custody, and continuous control monitoring, with pipelines and AI agents that verify custody, access, and evidence so each site can operate within the right boundaries.

This role sits at the intersection of production data engineering and security operations, building end-to-end systems that capture custody events as they happen, measure control outcomes over time, and provide trusted query surfaces for engineering and leadership.

What you will do

  • Own the component-level record of what hardware exists, where it is, and who handled it, including a data model, pipelines that join inventory and custody events from multiple source systems, record change history, and tamper-evident storage.
  • Develop the tools and agents used on top of this data, including reconciliation, audit evidence exports, and custody checks, and build automation that removes recurring review bottlenecks.
  • Design workflows and the site and host software that capture custody events in real time (receipt, move, data wipe, decommission) while enforcing authorization for recording those events.
  • Own the pipelines that convert check outcomes, assessment results, and findings into per-control and per-site measures over time, and into the posture calculation that determines what each site is cleared to run.
  • Build coverage checks, reconcile data against sources, and alert on silent or drifting feeds so incorrect or missing records are identified the same day; also own retention and access controls for the records.
  • Coordinate schemas and interfaces with engineers supporting the security monitoring platform, and build query surfaces and reports used by the team, site leads, and leadership.

Minimum requirements

  • Designed and run production data systems (relational schemas, change data capture, batch or streaming pipelines, and surrounding services) while ensuring correctness through coverage measurement, reconciliation against sources, silence detection, and designs that assume records may be corrupted or lost.
  • Integrated with external systems you did not control (inventory tools, ticketing systems, vendor APIs) and built data models that remain valid beyond a single source.
  • Shipped software that runs outside a central service (host agents, site-local services, edge collectors) and maintained correctness in the field, or built defensible metrics that teams used for decisions.
  • Hands-on experience with data tied to physical assets or security controls, such as hardware fleet or supply chain inventory, asset custody, or control and evidence data from a security or compliance program.
  • Ability to read and review other people’s code, and to build with AI coding agents using Git and code review.
  • Own a domain end to end by setting approach, designing, building with teams and vendors, and operating it as something people use daily.
  • Write SQL and at least one general-purpose programming language well.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with asset management, supply chain, or warehouse systems where serialized tracking and custody transfer are central problems.
  • Experience building continuous control monitoring or security/compliance metrics, or producing evidence accepted by assessors (for example NIST SP 800-53, ISO 27001, or SOC 2).
  • Experience with risk or posture scoring that combines control results, findings, and other evidence into a decision-ready measure.
  • Familiarity with data center hardware lifecycle from receipt to decommission, and with sites/parties not directly controlled (colocation, cloud or GPU cloud operators, hardware manufacturers, logistics providers).
  • Experience running software on many hosts or remote sites with versioned rollout and mechanisms to confirm each copy is reporting.
  • Experience building AI agents or automation that replaced recurring manual work.

Technologies

  • SQL
  • Git
  • Change data capture
  • Batch or streaming pipelines

Location and travel

  • Remote (remote) with consideration for remote applicants in the US.
  • Role based in San Francisco, with regular travel to data center sites that are critical infrastructure.

Compensation

Annual salary: USD 320,000 - 405,000

Benefits

  • Optional equity donation matching
  • Generous vacation and parental leave
  • Flexible working hours
  • Lovely office space to collaborate with colleagues
  • Competitive compensation and benefits

Additional information

  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas, but not for every role and candidate.
