Principal Software Engineer (STRIX-P4-1)
Job Description
Collins Aerospace is hiring a Principal Software Engineer (STRIX-P4-1) for onsite work in Saint Petersburg, FL. In this role, you will develop and validate embedded and application software with a focus on C++, partnering across the full delivery lifecycle from requirements through testing and documentation.
The work environment is collaborative and structured for continuous delivery, with teams operating in an Agile/SAFe context. The position also includes U.S. Secret clearance requirements, including eligibility for an interim clearance prior to the start date.
Responsibilities
- Participate in requirements, design, development, and testing of embedded software, including application, middleware, operating system, and supporting tools for new work products or enhancements.
- Design, code, test, integrate, and document software solutions.
- Contribute to internal reviews of software components and systems.
- Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks to validate functionality, performance, and security across embedded targets and simulated environments.
- Design, build, and maintain complex CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
- Work effectively in a collaborative SAFe agile environment.
Requirements
- Knowledge of data structures and algorithms, systems software design, operating systems, architectures, and the software development life cycle and processes.
- Experience with C++, Python, and object-oriented software design.
- Hands-on experience building automated tests for embedded or software systems (for example, unit, integration, or system-level testing).
- Typically requires a STEM degree and minimum 8 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field with minimum 5 years of experience.
- Active and transferable DoD Secret security clearance required prior to day 1; U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Security Clearance
- Secret clearance is current.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing software in team-based development environments, preferably Agile/SCRUM, DevSecOps, and test automation.
- Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration (such as Docker and Kubernetes).
- Experience using Conan package manager for C++.
- Experience working with large, complex software systems and refactoring legacy code.
- Experience writing and debugging real-time multithreaded software applications.

Salary: USD 107,500 - 204,500 per year. Minimum experience: 8 years.
