Lead Software Engineer - Python

JPMorganChase seeks a seasoned Lead Software Engineer with Python expertise to steer the design, development, and delivery of automated, secure, and scalable database platform capabilities across the firm. This onsite role, based in Houston within Infrastructure Platforms – Core Foundational Platforms / Databases, collaborates with product owners, database engineering, infrastructure, application teams, and site reliability to provide modern, resilient services for developers.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software that automates database provisioning and lifecycle workflows, including deployment, provisioning, configuration, and operational processes.
• Create and enhance self-service capabilities for enterprise database platforms to accelerate delivery, improve developer experience, and reduce manual toil.
• Develop secure, reliable, and scalable backend services, APIs, automation frameworks, user interfaces, and orchestration workflows using Python, React, Django, Ansible, Terraform, and related tooling.
• Implement innovative software solutions, applying thoughtful design and troubleshooting to resolve complex technical problems beyond routine approaches.
• Deliver secure, high-quality code, conduct code reviews, debug intricate issues, and mentor other engineers.
• Identify opportunities to automate recurring tasks and remediation, enhancing operational stability, resiliency, and efficiency of database platforms and supporting applications.
• Collaborate with database engineering, cloud, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and application teams to deliver solutions aligned with enterprise architecture, resiliency, control, and security standards.
• Contribute to modernizing database build and deployment capabilities, including cloud-enabled patterns, infrastructure as code, continuous delivery, and self-service operating models.
• Lead adoption of enterprise authorized AI assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, speed of delivery, and operational outcomes, while establishing validation standards and promoting reuse of patterns across the team.
• Apply knowledge of the SDLC toolchain, incorporating AI assisted development and automation capabilities to maximize the value of automation.
• Support a culture that emphasizes diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect within the team.

Requirements

• Formal training or certification in software engineering with at least five years of hands-on experience in system design, development, testing, deployment, and operational stability.
• Extensive hands-on programming experience in Python.
• Extensive experience with automation.
• Extensive experience building REST APIs.
• Extensive experience with platform tooling.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, including object oriented design, API development, automated testing, code quality, version control, and production support.
• Experience delivering automation solutions, platform services, backend applications, workflow orchestration, or infrastructure engineering tools.
• Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery practices, including CI/CD pipelines, release automation, and deployment tools such as Jenkins and Spinnaker, along with release management and environment promotion.
• Leadership in adopting AI assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, with established validation standards and patterns reuse.
• SDLC toolchain expertise with enterprise authorized AI assisted development and automation capabilities to maximize automation value.
• Proficiency across the Software Development Life Cycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and support.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to break down complex issues and drive resolution.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to convey technical concepts clearly to engineering teams, stakeholders, and leadership.
• Ability to work effectively in a global team environment, collaborate across functions, and provide technical leadership to other engineers.
