Lead Data Engineer
Job Description
Deloitte’s AI & Data team is seeking a Lead Data Engineer II to help shape and execute an enterprise data approach that supports both operations and analytics. In this onsite role in Baltimore, MD, you will define data architecture, govern canonical data models, and provide technical leadership across delivery and migration efforts.
As a lead on the team, you will partner with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure architectural decisions map to real operational needs and future analytical requirements. This position is designed for an experienced engineer who can balance governance, hands-on technical oversight, and delivery leadership across complex data systems.
What You’ll Do
- Define and govern enterprise data architecture, including logical and physical data models, database schemas, and hierarchical and recursive data structures.
- Design and oversee canonical data models, ontology structures, and platform data standards to improve consistency, scalability, and system performance.
- Provide technical oversight of data engineering delivery, including pipeline design, schema changes, code reviews, quality controls, and architectural approvals.
- Lead data migration planning and execution, covering sequencing, mapping, validation, reconciliation, rollback planning, and issue resolution during cutover.
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to align architecture decisions with operational requirements and analytical needs.

- 5+ years of experience designing database architectures, including recursive and hierarchical data structures.
- 4+ years with SQL and data modeling across relational, dimensional, and graph-oriented models.
- 4+ years with PySpark and ETL/ELT-style pipeline tooling.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the required clearance for the role.
- Must be able to travel 25% on average.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading enterprise data migration efforts from legacy systems to target-state platforms.
- Experience leading data engineering teams or technical workstreams.
- Experience translating business requirements into technical data architecture designs.

Compensation
- USD 110,700 - 174,600 per year (estimated wage range).
- You may be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to program rules and factors including individual and organizational performance.
