Job Description

Logistics Management Institute is seeking a mid-level Full Stack Developer for a fully remote opportunity that supports a DoD customer. This role operates on a DoD-accredited AWS GovCloud platform and delivers tools capable of operating in IL6 environments, requiring an active Secret clearance. The selected engineer will own both backend and integration work while collaborating with teammates across UX and research to shape robust, mission-focused software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the API surface, authentication, and data connectivity layer by designing and implementing RESTful services that connect mission applications to the backend data platform hosted on AWS GovCloud.
  • Develop and ship features across the full stack, working closely with the front-end developer who owns the UI implementation.
  • Integrate with backend data services including relational databases (Aurora or Amazon RDS), Lambda-based processing pipelines, and AWS Glue.
  • Design and implement role-based access control, session management, and authentication patterns suitable for environments up to IL6.
  • Collaborate directly with the HCD researcher and front-end developer in working sessions, shaping technical decisions that affect user experience rather than merely implementing specifications.
  • Contribute to backend architecture decisions across successive application builds, establishing repeatable integration patterns for the application portfolio.

Requirements

  • Active Secret clearance.
  • 3+ years of full-stack development experience; comfortable owning both backend services and application-layer integration.
  • Solid backend experience in Node.js and/or Python.
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and backend services that support scalable, maintainable integration across distributed components.
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora, or Amazon RDS, including schema design, SQL development, and operational support.
  • Familiarity with AWS services relevant to application integration: API Gateway, Lambda, IAM, S3, RDS/Aurora, and GovCloud services.
  • Experience implementing authentication and role-based access control in web applications.
  • Ability to move quickly and iterate without heavy specs or detailed tickets.

  • Python
  • Amazon Aurora
  • Amazon RDS
  • PostgreSQL

What will set you apart

  • Experience building software in DoD or IC environments with federal security and compliance requirements, secure coding practices, access control, auditability, and deployment constraints in accredited systems.
  • Hands-on AWS GovCloud experience, including awareness of service availability differences, compliance boundaries, and GovCloud constraints.
  • Background building on IL4 or IL6 platforms, or familiarity with DoD Impact Level requirements and how they influence architecture decisions.
  • Previous collaboration with HCD or UX teams, translating validated design direction into application behavior rather than relying solely on static mocks.
  • A portfolio of side projects, open-source contributions, or other evidence of a builder mindset.
  • SOF operator or SOF-support background with understanding of core SOF activities and mission sets.
