Job Description
As a Data Engineer Principal at FedEx, you’ll help drive enterprise data engineering innovation in a hybrid role based in Plano, TX. The position emphasizes end-to-end ownership, modern engineering standards, and practical impact through scalable data ingestion, transformation, and pipeline delivery. You’ll also contribute to keeping FedEx’s data engineering capabilities current with advanced tools and methods for large-scale, complex problem solving.
Compensation: $11,766.26 to $15,884.45 per month (Plano pay range). Additional pay, premiums, or bonus potential may apply based on experience and other job-related factors per applicable law.
What You’ll Do
- Own critical data engineering initiatives end-to-end, with responsibility for outcomes.
- Advance FedEx broad capabilities by enabling teams to use and deploy cutting-edge data engineering tools and methods across projects, platforms, and products.
- Champion the design and build of reusable data engineering assets to anchor current best practices.
- Disseminate the latest, most sophisticated approaches for extremely large-scale and complex data engineering challenges.
- Oversee the design, build, test, and maintenance of data pipelines operating at big data scale.
- Lead batch processing of collected data to ensure it is analysis-ready.
- Implement and maintain optimized, efficient pipeline and ecosystem processes, including troubleshooting performance and data-related issues and providing expert guidance.
- Independently implement parsers, validators, transformers, and correlators to reformat, update, and enhance data.
- Apply data engineering methods alongside CI/CD, statistics, and machine learning practices to recommend solutions for organizationally critical and complex data problems.
- Advise junior data engineers, managers, and less-senior team members.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, or a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics or Engineering, or equivalent formal training or work experience.
- Directly related PhD preferred.
- 7 years (or equivalent experience) in measurement and analysis, quantitative business problem solving, simulation development, and/or predictive analytics.
- Extensive knowledge of data engineering and machine learning frameworks, including design, development, and implementation of highly complex systems and data pipelines.
- Extensive knowledge in information systems, including design, development, and implementation of large batch or online transaction-based systems.
- Strong understanding of the transportation industry, competitors, and evolving technologies.
- Experience providing expert leadership in a general planning or consulting setting.
- Experience as a leader or senior member of multi-functional project teams.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively to senior audiences.
- A related advanced degree may offset related experience requirements.
