Data Engineer III - Click Stream Data Products

Join Expedia’s Clickstream Data Products team in Austin, TX (onsite) to design, build, and scale data platforms and services that capture and deliver traveler interaction signals. In this Data Engineer III role, you will help power reliable pipelines, automated quality frameworks, data contracts, and observability and governance, enabling accurate, timely, and easy-to-consume behavioral data, including safe AI/ML-enabled solutions.

What you’ll work on

You will design and deliver production data solutions that support business and product outcomes across multiple domains. The focus is on system and data engineering practices that improve reliability, performance, maintainability, security, and operational visibility.

• Design, build, and maintain reliable data pipelines and services supporting business and product outcomes across multiple domains.
• Apply technical aptitude to data engineering challenges including system design, low-level design, API design, data modeling, and scalable data processing.
• Develop, test, deploy, and operate production-quality data solutions with an emphasis on reliability, performance, maintainability, and security.
• Collaborate with engineers, product partners, analysts, and domain experts to turn complex requirements into effective data products and technical solutions.
• Use data-driven analysis to improve pipeline performance, data quality, operational visibility, and decision-making across supported services and domains.
• Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions to improve outcomes, with familiarity of AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and application of AI/ML concepts to real-world products.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent related professional experience.
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience building and operating production data pipelines, services, or platforms with ownership spanning multiple services or a defined technical domain.
• Proficiency in data modeling, data processing, software development fundamentals, API design, and system design, including low-level design.
• Experience developing maintainable, testable, and reliable solutions, including understanding of observability, incident response, performance, and operational excellence.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience designing and evolving scalable data architectures across multiple services or a broad technical domain.
• Demonstrated ability to improve system reliability, data quality, performance, and operational efficiency through measurable, data-driven outcomes.
• Experience leading technical decisions, mentoring engineers, and influencing architecture within a multi-service or domain-level scope.
• Familiarity with AI/ML-enabled data products, model-serving or data workflows, and safely applying AI/ML concepts to improve real-world product outcomes.
• Experience delivering flexible data engineering solutions across multiple domains while balancing maintainability, scalability, security, and customer impact.

Compensation

USD 146,000 - 233,500 per year.
