Data Engineer II
Job Description
This Data Engineer II position at Amazon Web Services, Inc. is based onsite in Atlanta, GA and focuses on designing, developing, and operating large-scale data structures to support business intelligence analytics. The role encompasses ETL or ELT processes, data modeling, SQL and Oracle expertise, OLAP capabilities, and OBIEE reporting, along with requirements gathering, participation in the SDLC, documentation, tool evaluation, and mentoring junior data engineers. The annual compensation ranges from USD 132,100 to 178,800.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, implement, test, document, and operate large-scale, high-volume, high-performance data structures for business intelligence analytics.
- Apply best practices in data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, SQL, Oracle, and OLAP technologies to implement data structures.
- Deliver online reporting and analytics using OBIEE and a logical abstraction layer across large, multi-dimensional datasets from multiple sources.
- Gather business and functional requirements and translate them into robust, scalable, operable solutions that align with the overall data architecture.
- Analyze source data systems and promote best practices within source teams.
- Participate in the full development life cycle from design and implementation through testing, documentation, delivery, support, and maintenance.
- Produce comprehensive dataset documentation and metadata to support usability and governance.
- Evaluate and make decisions regarding dataset implementations proposed by peer data engineers.
- Assess the adoption of new or existing software products and tools and make informed decisions.
- Mentor junior data engineers.
Requirements
- Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field, plus one year of experience in the offered position or in related roles such as Operations Research Analyst, Database Developer, or equivalent.
- Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field, with five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation; this experience may be considered equivalent to the Master's degree with one year of experience.
- One year of experience in ETL/ELT processes.
