Job Description

Amazon Live’s DESA team is hiring a Data Engineer to help shape forward-looking data architecture and deliver durable, reusable data assets. In this role, you’ll design data layers and build ML-ready datasets that support executive reporting, model training, and downstream ML features, with an emphasis on data quality and reliable ETL delivery.

This position is based in Seattle, WA and is an onsite role. The salary range is USD 132,100 to 178,800 per year, and the role calls for 3+ years of data engineering experience.

What you’ll do

  • Design and build a content metadata layer that unifies broadcast events, product catalog data, creator profiles, and show metadata into reusable assets for both dashboards and models.
  • Create cross-session shopper profile datasets that sessionize event data across visits and compute rolling engagement metrics, including frequency, recency, depth, and conversion lag.
  • Build integration pipelines that connect retail catalog and advertising performance data into the Amazon Live platform to expand analytics and ML signal coverage.
  • Produce structured, ML-ready datasets that feed Applied Scientists’ models and provide features for downstream ranking and personalization systems.
  • Own data quality through proactive monitoring and anomaly detection to stay ahead of issues.
  • Advance ETL platform maturity with CI/CD for ETL (BDT/Maestro), standardized deployment, and AI-assisted code generation and review.
  • Partner with Applied Scientists, MLEs, DEs, and the BIE to align data assets to model, serving, and reporting needs.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of data engineering experience.
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
  • SQL experience.
  • Experience with AWS technologies including Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions.
  • Experience with non-relational databases and data stores, such as object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, or column-family databases.

Technologies

  • SQL
  • AWS
  • Redshift
  • S3
  • AWS Glue
  • EMR
  • Kinesis
  • FireHose
  • Lambda
  • IAM

Benefits

  • Health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription), Basic Life & AD&D, option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, and Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage.
  • 401(k) matching.
  • Paid time off.
  • Parental leave.
  • Sign-on payments.
  • Restricted stock units (RSUs).

A day in the life

  • Move quickly across a broad surface area, from designing denormalized content metadata assets to integrating new retail or advertising data sources, hardening ETL CI/CD, building data-quality alarms, and packaging features for distribution ranking systems.
  • Partner daily with Applied Scientists, MLEs, DEs, and the BIE to scope what to build and how datasets will be consumed, supported by self-serve analytics agents and agentic operational tooling.
  • Work across the full data lifecycle with real ownership, contributing to both foundational infrastructure and model-ready data.

About the team

  • The DESA team owns the data platform, analytics, and sciences for Amazon Live and Shop the Show.
  • It is a compact, senior, high-trust team: DEs own infrastructure and foundational data assets, the BIE owns executive reporting, Applied Scientists and MLEs own models and experiments, and collaboration happens across these boundaries.
  • As a Data Engineer, you’ll own forward-looking data architecture and gain exposure from event ingestion through production ML and leadership reporting.
  • Your datasets serve as shared org infrastructure for attribution models, ranking features, and the reporting the business runs on.
