Job Description

Vitol is seeking a Data Engineer to help build and run the company’s critical data foundations in a hands-on, onsite role in Houston. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining core databases and the surrounding data processes that support performance, reliability, security, and migrations to cloud data platforms.

Role focus

You will design, develop, implement, and maintain databases and data-related processes. This includes performance monitoring and optimization, security standards and controls, disaster recovery plan evolution, replication between environments, and planning and execution of migrations from on premises databases to cloud data platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain core databases and related processes
  • Collaborate with the development team to optimize and simplify data-related architecture
  • Own database performance and capacity monitoring
  • Optimize and execute data-related jobs and scripts as needed
  • Support product developers by expanding data schemas and optimizing for common use cases
  • Contribute to the evolution of existing disaster recovery plans
  • Proactively manage and maintain security standards and controls
  • Determine, enforce, and document team DB policies, procedures, and standards
  • Perform performance testing and evaluation to support optimal performance and data integrity
  • Implement database replication between environments using internal tools and Enterprise Database tools
  • Plan and execute migrations of data from on premises databases to cloud data platforms

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, and seven (7) years of experience as a Data Engineer or Oracle Database Administrator
  • Six (6) years of experience working with large Oracle Databases, including complex SQL statements and PL/SQL packages
  • Four (4) years of optimization and execution experience for data-related jobs and scripts
  • Two (2) years of experience designing databases and developing high-volume data solutions, including building and maintaining highly available, replicated, enterprise-scale database environments

Location: Houston, TX (onsite). Worksite: 3425 W Alabama St., Houston, TX 77027. Schedule: 40 hours/week.
