Data Engineer
Job Description
As a Data Engineer on Tesla’s Data Center Manufacturing Quality Team in Houston, you will support Quality Engineering initiatives onsite. The role focuses on strengthening manufacturing quality through automation of production controls, robust data pipelines, defect prediction, and live visualization tools that help teams evaluate performance and respond to change.
Working onsite in Brookshire, TX, you will contribute to end-to-end analytics, from clarifying data needs and validating manufacturing execution systems to building databases and reporting mechanisms that surface meaningful insights.
What you’ll do
- Define requirements and perform validation of manufacturing execution systems.
- Analyze manufacturing, equipment, and product field data to extract statistics and insights about failures that drive improvements to production quality and customer experience.
- Partner with engineers to conduct end-to-end analyses, including data requirement gathering, data processing, and modeling.
- Monitor key product metrics and help explain root causes behind changes.
- Interpret results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports.
- Identify trends or patterns in complex datasets and communicate findings through dashboards and reports.
- Maintain existing data visualizations, data pipelines, and support dashboard enhancement requests.
- Acquire data from primary or secondary sources, maintain databases and data systems, and enable operational and exploratory analysis.
- Run data quality validations to confirm data creation aligns with business needs and expectations.
What you bring
- Degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience writing software with Python.
- Experience with multiple data architecture paradigms, including SQL, NoSQL, Kafka, and Spark.
- Experience and interest in frontend development, preferably with JavaScript and React.
- Knowledge of data communication protocols such as REST API and WebSocket.
- Ability to work under pressure, collaborate effectively, and manage competing demands with tight deadlines.
