Job Description

Thomson Reuters Special Services (TRSS) is hiring a Data Engineer to support Federal Law Enforcement customers in the Burlington, VT area. The position focuses on collecting, integrating, resolving, analyzing, modeling, and explaining large and sensitive datasets to support complex investigations, with on-site work and security clearance requirements.

Role Overview

In this role, you will translate customer needs into actionable project plans and deliver results within required timeframes. You will work with customers at multiple levels, represent TRSS, and support mission activities across a broad set of Federal Law Enforcement efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Federal Law Enforcement agencies by collecting, integrating, resolving, analyzing, modeling, and explaining large data in support of complex investigations.
  • Contribute to Federal Law Enforcement missions including Immigration Enforcement, Emerging Threat Detection, Money Laundering, Fraud, Force Protection, Human Rights Crimes, Transnational Crime, and more.
  • Outside of contract work, participate in internal research and development (R&D), develop and maintain shared capabilities, strengthen technical skills, and support business development activities such as proof-of-concept projects and capabilities briefings.
  • Interpret customer requests and/or problem statements into project plans, establish project goals and methods, and deliver actionable outputs on schedule.
  • Interface directly with customers at all levels and act as a TRSS representative.
  • Handle sensitive, confidential, or regulated data in accordance with applicable policies and requirements.
  • Collaborate with teammates while also working independently as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship (essential for government contract requirements).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance or agency work suitability determination, as required by assignment.
  • Willingness to work full time, on-site, embedded at U.S. Government offices in the Burlington, VT area.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a technical field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, including proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Java, R, etc.), with experience creating programs for ETL, data pipelines, and entity resolution.
  • Proficiency in multiple variants of SQL, including complex queries, table and view creation, and database performance tuning.
  • Experience managing enterprise databases and warehouses, particularly Databricks, MS SQL Server, and Snowflake.
  • Experience with data modeling across disparate data sources with varied formats and structures.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, Snowflake, etc.).
  • Experience with formal SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) procedures.
  • Experience with version control software and methodology, preferably GitHub.
  • Current/active government work suitability or security clearance.
  • Experience working with law enforcement agencies.
  • Programming skills in multiple languages other than Python (Python is a minimum requirement), including R, Java, or SQL.
  • Experience with software development, including managing collaborative codebases, version control, linting/testing, containerization, and interacting with REST APIs.
  • Ability to interface directly with customers at all levels and handle sensitive, confidential, or regulated data in accordance with applicable policies and requirements.

Pay Transparency

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $82,000 USD - $152,200 USD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on factors including knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
