Build and improve low-latency trading capabilities with Citi’s Equities Electronic Trading team. This VP-level Algorithmic Trading Developer role in Jersey City combines high-performance engineering with practical trading platform ownership, from microservices design to monitoring, recovery, and trade reconciliation. What you’ll do
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of high-performance, low-latency microservices and applications focused on algorithmic trading strategies and infrastructure.
- Implement and enhance complex trading logic, execution strategies, and performance optimizations to support best execution and reliable system behavior.
- Drive technical design discussions and perform rigorous code reviews to maintain quality, performance, and architectural integrity.
- Partner with product development, quantitative researchers, and other technology teams to deliver new trading capabilities and improve existing systems.
- Continuously improve testing frameworks, development tools, and deployment processes for a low-latency, high-throughput environment.
- Tackle complex technical challenges through analysis of business requirements, system processes, and relevant industry best practices.
- Apply expert knowledge of system architecture, data flow, and development standards for coding, testing, debugging, and implementation.
- Build and maintain robust solutions for trading platform monitoring, trade reconciliation, and application recovery.
- Assess risk appropriately when business decisions are made by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; adhering to Policy; applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices; and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.
What you bring
- 5+ years of hands-on software development experience, with strong focus on high-performance, low-latency systems.
- Expert-level Core Java knowledge, including JVM internals, concurrency, garbage collection, and memory management in a low-latency context.
- Proven experience designing and developing automated trading systems in Equities or similar domains, such as smart order routing, benchmark algorithms, or automated execution strategies.
- Solid understanding of market protocols (for example FIX) and practical experience working with order and market datasets.
- Experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems development.
- Demonstrated experience with modern testing frameworks, Agile methodologies, and CI/CD processes.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present and understand complex technical and business concepts.
- Familiarity with messaging and data grid technologies such as Solace, AMPS, Chronicle, or KDB+; and/or infrastructure automation tools like Ansible. Experience with other high-performance languages such as Rust is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree/University degree (or equivalent experience); Master’s degree preferred.
Compensation and location
Location: Jersey City, NJ, United States (onsite).
Salary: USD 142,320 - 213,480 per year.
