Hadrian Automation is building advanced systems to automate technical data understanding and accelerate precision manufacturing planning and execution. As a Machine Learning Engineer in the San Francisco Bay Area (onsite), you will design, build, and scale agentic and document understanding systems that convert engineering drawings and CAD models into structured data used to generate processes and plan factories.
What you’ll do
- Design, build, and deploy agentic systems that read multi-page engineering drawing sets, including page classification and extraction of parts lists, notes, tables, dimensions, GD&T, and weld symbols.
- Build the tools your agents use, including image processing, geometry, and CAD registration, and make clear decisions about which parts belong in code versus model.
- Own evaluation across the system using gold datasets, accuracy metrics, LLM-as-judge rubrics, and online checks that flag failures on documents where ground truth is not available.
- Work across the full agent lifecycle: prompt and exemplar design, orchestration, tracing, cost and latency, and production pipelines that move results into databases and applications.
- Combine frontier models, open-source tools, and classical computer vision to deliver high-quality document understanding for manufacturing use cases.
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (or similar discipline), or an equivalent amount of industry experience.
- 5+ years of experience in Machine Learning and/or Computer Vision, with ownership from prototype through production.
- AI-native builder mindset with strong business and product sense.
- Hands-on experience building LLM or VLM-based agents, including tool use, structured outputs, and graph orchestration.
- Experience designing evaluations for non-deterministic systems and using those results to determine what ships.
Technologies you’ll work with
- OpenCV, scikit-image, AWS, Bedrock, GovCloud, OpenTelemetry, MLflow, Langfuse
- LLM, VLM, OCR
Benefits
- Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans for employees
- 401k
- Relocation support may be provided for certain situations, based on business need
- Flexible vacation policy
- Equity
What sets you apart
- Experience with classical computer vision (OpenCV, scikit-image, etc.) and with training or fine-tuning detection, segmentation, or OCR models
- Prior visual document understanding and layout analysis experience, especially on technical data or dense, high-variance documents
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or manufacturing, including work with 3D/CAD/CAM data for manufacturing applications
- Prior experience running models on AWS, including Bedrock or GovCloud environments
- Prior experience with tracing and observability for LLM applications (OpenTelemetry, MLflow, Langfuse, etc.)
- Strong software engineering skills and prior web development experience
- Passion for manufacturing and a belief that the industry needs better software
ITAR requirements
To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), you must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
Equal opportunity

Reasonable accommodations are provided for disabled candidates and employees, including for candidates or employees who are disabled by pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions. Compensation Range: $215K - $359K.
AI use in hiring
Hadrian uses AI-assisted tools in recruiting and hiring to help the team work more efficiently (organize and analyze recruiting data, and an AI-powered notetaker that records and transcribes interviews and helps coordinate feedback). These tools support the team and are not used to make hiring decisions; all candidate evaluations and hiring decisions are performed by humans. If an interview will be recorded, you will be notified in advance and may opt out at any time with no impact on your candidacy. Candidate data processed through these tools is subject to the same protections described in Hadrian’s Privacy Policy.
Criminal history consideration
Hadrian will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws. The company does not ask about criminal history on the application and does not consider it before making a conditional offer of employment.
