Tool & Die Maker/Developer
Job Description
NN, Inc. seeks a certified Journeyman Tool Maker in Algonquin, IL (onsite) to develop, fabricate, and assemble progressive stamping dies from specifications to production readiness, with compensation in the range of USD 32 - 46 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Review blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions to determine required materials and fabrication methods.
- Verify finished parts meet specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Fit and assemble components into complete assemblies using fixtures, surface plates, hand tools, and power tools.
- Check dimensions and alignment of assemblies with micrometers, height gauges, sine bars, and gauge blocks.
- Collaborate with engineers, tool and die makers, production and quality personnel to resolve die development and part problems.
- Receive instructions and communicate activities with coworkers and managers.
- Lift machined parts manually or with a hoist, and position and secure on a surface plate or worktable using vises, angle plates, and V-blocks.
- Examine new dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures and recommend design modifications for construction and function.
- Connect wiring and hydraulic lines to install electrical and hydraulic components on a die.
- Fabricate components and assemble new tooling.
- Assist in establishing production readiness, including periphery equipment selection, press setup, and part handling.
- Communicate with all levels of the organization to ensure timely, cost-effective outcomes.
Requirements
- Certification as a Journeyman Tool Maker
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship
- Minimum of 5 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, and completion of a formal apprenticeship
