Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Advertiser Growth
Job Description
Unity Technologies SF is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to strengthen advertiser growth across the marketplace. In this onsite role in New York, NY, you will help architect GenAI systems for creative generation, design budget pacing and billing reliability, and build experimentation infrastructure that supports marketplace optimization and advertiser ROI.
This position sits on Unity’s Advertiser Growth team and combines technical leadership with deep systems work. The scope spans pacing controllers, generative model integration, high-scale event processing, and experimentation that informs how spend velocity translates into performance and platform health.
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize pacing controllers, including PID and probabilistic forecasting, to smooth advertiser spend across time zones and traffic spikes while maintaining delivery quality and marketplace stability.
- Lead the backend integration of Generative AI models such as Diffusion and LLMs to automate creation of image and video assets aligned to campaign goals and formats.
- Build and scale high-velocity experimentation infrastructure, including A/B testing, switchback tests, and long-term holdouts to measure marketplace changes against advertiser ROI and platform health.
- Architect and maintain high-throughput billing pipelines that process billions of events with 100% accuracy, linking real-time ad delivery with financial reconciliation requirements.
- Analyze financial and marketplace datasets to refine the trade-off between spend velocity and advertiser performance, using experimentation outcomes to tune pacing and billing logic.
Requirements
- Advanced degree in computer science or a relevant engineering field (or equivalent experience).
- 6+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years working on ads delivery systems.
- Strong experience building and operating large-scale, low-latency backend systems using Java, Go, or Scala.
- Deep familiarity with budget control systems, feedback loops, or spend-prediction algorithms.
- Proven experience building or scaling experimentation platforms, with an understanding of variance reduction, interference/network effects, and metric design in marketplace settings.
- A track record working on mission-critical pipelines (billing, payments, or clearinghouses) where precision, idempotency, and fault tolerance are essential.
- Experience or a strong technical interest in building backend workflows to serve, scale, and store Generative AI models for creative generation.
- Proficiency with real-time stream processing (Kafka, Flink, or Spark) applied to event-based charging and real-time performance feedback.
- Ability to lead complex, multi-quarter technical roadmaps and mentor senior engineers in a high-growth environment.
