Machine Learning Engineer 4

Capital One is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer 4 to design, build, deliver, and productionize machine learning models and reusable components. This onsite role in McLean, VA brings you into close collaboration with Product and Data Science teams to deploy ML solutions at scale, keep models governed and monitored, and apply Responsible and Explainable AI best practices throughout the lifecycle.

In this position, you will help shape decisions across model and data choices, then translate them into reliable software and cloud-based architectures. You will also support the full production loop, including retraining, maintenance, and monitoring, along with the tooling and operational practices needed for successful deployments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and/or deliver ML models and components that address real-world business problems with Product and Data Science partners
• Use knowledge of ML modeling techniques and tradeoffs to inform infrastructure decisions, including model selection, data and feature selection, training, hyperparameter tuning, dimensionality choices, and validation
• Solve complex problems through application code development and testing, model validation, and automation of tests and deployments
• Work in a cross-functional Agile team to create and improve software for state-of-the-art big data and ML applications
• Retrain, maintain, and monitor models in production
• Leverage or build cloud-based architectures, technologies, and/or platforms to deliver optimized ML models at scale
• Construct optimized data pipelines to support ML model training and evaluation
• Apply continuous integration and continuous deployment practices, including test automation and monitoring, to support successful releases of ML models and application code
• Ensure code is well-managed to reduce vulnerabilities, models are governed from a risk perspective, and ML follows Responsible and Explainable AI best practices
• Use programming languages such as Python, Scala, or Java

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
• 4+ years of experience programming with Python, Java, Golang, or C++
• 4+ years of Machine Learning experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow, including libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn
• 4+ years operating large-scale distributed systems such as Spark and Ray for AI/ML data preparation
• 2+ years deploying and operating ML solutions in production services in the cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and using Kubernetes to manage large-scale containerized ML systems

Compensation and Location

McLean, VA: $197,300 - $225,100 per year for Machine Learning Engineer 4. This role may also be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
