Firmware Software Engineer
Job Description
Optical Zonu Corp is seeking a Firmware or Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for RF-over-fiber telecommunication products. This role centers on close collaboration with hardware, software, and production teams to deliver reliable firmware across product lifecycles, in an onsite setting in Van Nuys, California.

Salary
USD 100,000 - 160,000 per yearly
Education
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, test, and sustain embedded firmware, focusing on C-based implementations
- Carry out continuation engineering for existing products, addressing troubleshooting, feature enhancements, defect resolution, and lifecycle support
- Investigate, debug, and resolve firmware, software, and system-integration issues using suitable tools and methodologies
- Create supporting tooling, test applications, and manufacturing utilities using Python
- Support manufacturing by developing and maintaining test platforms, diagnostic tools, and production software
- Contribute to architecture and software design discussions to promote maintainability, modularity, and reliability
- Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and raise code quality and engineering practices
- Produce clear documentation, testing and validation procedures, and technical design information for firmware and related software tools
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline
- Strong proficiency in C
- Experience building software for microcontrollers, embedded hardware, and PC applications
- Solid understanding of abstraction, decoupling, and cohesion
- Familiarity with design patterns and software structures
- Experience with UML and software documentation
- Microcontroller optimization skills
- Experience debugging complex firmware and software systems
- Experience refactoring legacy systems without sacrificing functionality or reliability
- Ability to read and understand electronic schematics and principles
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters
- Ability to write clean, readable, well-documented code
- Strong written communication and commitment to thorough, maintainable deliverables
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment
